Like with most things, trends come and go, and in the world of plastic surgery, certain procedures become popular as more people hear about the extreme benefits. We’ve seen a growing shift over the past few years in the types of surgeries that patients find the most desirable, and it’s always interesting to get a glimpse of what’s to come by keeping tabs on the most popular cosmetic surgeries.
Every year the American Society of Plastic Surgeons release a comprehensive report on the top trends among plastic surgery, injectables, and a variety of other aesthetic procedures. The report for this year is still in the making, but the results from 2019 are finally in and, without further ado, here are the 5 most popular plastic surgeries of 2019:
Since 2006, breast augmentation has been the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure throughout the county. Roughly 85% of breast augmentations used silicone implants, and 15% had saline implants. Although more women chose this procedure, the overall totals were down 4% from the previous year.
Liposuction is a fat-removal procedure most often performed in the abdomen, hips, and buttock regions, though some patients opt to have their thighs, arms, back, and even chin included! Liposuction has been steadily on the rise over the past few years, and that trend continued as the total number of liposuction increased by 3% for 2019.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the eyelids or fixes imperfections or blemishes. If you have droopy eyelids, your cosmetic specialist can discuss ways to resolve the problem. Eyelid surgeries also increased by 2% for 2019.
Patients who do not like the shape or size of their nose may choose rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery. The simple technique can dramatically change your look and enhance your face. Although the total number of nose reshaping procedures dropped 3% in 2019, this surgery is still a popular choice and stayed in the top 5!
Another very popular plastic surgery option is a facelift, which may include facial implants, resurfacing of the skin to rejuvenate its texture and tone, and wrinkle reduction through injections or fillers. For 2019, facelifts increased by 2%.
Some other interesting cosmetic surgery statistics for 2019 include:
18.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed and 5.9 reconstructive procedures.
Women account for 93% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S.
Almost 30% (5.3 million) of all plastic surgeries occurred in the Mountain/Pacific area of the country.
Americans spent 16.7 billion on cosmetic surgery in 2019.
