Liposuction is a great procedure if you want to sculpt your body by removing stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. To do this, your surgeon will insert a cannula through a small incision and suction the fat away to reveal or enhance your body’s natural curves.
Patients who identify with the following may be a good candidate for liposuction. However, the only way to determine your candidacy for liposuction is to meet with a plastic surgeon during a consultation:
Patients who do not have any major health problems
Patients who are not smokers or willing to quit smoking at least 6 weeks before and after surgery
Patients who do not have any bleeding coagulopathies or issues with blood clotting
Patients who are at their ideal weight
No allergies to lidocaine or its derivatives
It’s important to remember that nothing in plastic surgery is a weight loss procedure. Candidates for liposuction should understand that liposuction should not be done expecting that they will lose significant weight. In fact, sometimes patients will gain a bit of weight in the short interim following the procedure due to the swelling that ensues.
Liposuction is considered a body contouring procedure, which means your plastic surgeon will target and slim some trouble areas for you. Patients are recommended to be at or near their goal weight before undergoing liposuction, as this procedure simply enhances what you already have ❤️

Usually patients are able to return to work one week after surgery. However, patients must avoid cardiovascular activity and cannot lift anything above 5 lbs for about 4 weeks after surgery or until they’ve been cleared by their plastic surgeon.
It is important to understand that each patient is unique and your recovery time can depend on a variety of factors.
Enhancement: Immediate
70% Swelling reduction: 4 - 6 weeks
Full settling and recovery: 3 months
